3x NCAA Champ Ed Ruth Competes At IBJJF Pans

3x NCAA champion and Bellator MMA prospect Ed Ruth showed up at the 2017 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships on thursday trading in his singlet and wrestling shoes for a blue belt and gi. With just eight months experience wearing the kimono Ruth is still adjusting to the grips but walked away from the mega tournament with a silver medal.

The Penn State standout had five matches, winning two by submission and losing in the finals to Atos blue belt & no-gi world champion Conner Deangelis.

I'm doing MMA right now so I'm definitely just trying to dive into a bunch of different disciplines, completely submerge myself to see how far I can take it. When it comes to MMA I'm just throwing all this stuff together. So I feel coming out here doing jiu-jitsu and getting a feel for guys who are pure in the sport and then I take that into the cage it just ups my game so much more.
