After Black Belt Promotion Devhonte Johnson Has Sights Set On ADCC

Devhonte Johnson Has Sights Set On ADCC

One of the most decorated competitors coming out of Unity Jiu-Jitsu has graduated to black belt and is setting his sights on ADCC.

World champion Devhonte Johnson earned his black belt from Murilo Santana last month after a stellar run at both purple and brown belts.

In 2017 Johnson captured his first world title when he bested Fabio Alano in the finals of the purple belt division. One year later as a brown belt he'd repeat his success and capture his second world championship.

Now that the promising submission artist is in the black belt division he'll be turning his attention away from the gi to focus solely on the prestigious no-gi tournaments on the horizon.

Specifically, Devhonte is on the hunt for a gold medal at ADCC trials later this year. Watch the full interview above.

"My main goal is to win ADCC Trials and qualify for ADCC next year. No-gi has never been my strong suit, but I've always wanted to get better at it. I feel like if you're gonna call yourself good at jiu-jitsu you should be well rounded. The best guys have always been able to do both. I don't want people to think I'm only a great gi guy. I want to go out and do those heel hook tournaments and win."

ADCC East Coast trials will go down November 3 in Bayville, NJ. You can watch every match LIVE right here on FloGrappling.com.
