Levi Jones-Leary: How Mental Training Promises To Lead Him To Spyder Gold

How Mental Training Could Lead Levi To Gold

The power of visualization has long been heralded as a valuable tool of elite jiu-jitsu athletes.

Gustavo Dantes (aka the BJJ Mental Coach), Kit Dale, Espen Mathiesen and others have all been outspoken supporters of the power of visualization, and it seems that one more rising star can be added to that list. Unity's Levi-Jones Leary.

"I know I don't have full control of the external world, but I should be able to have full control of my internal happiness. Every day I'm winning the World Championships in my mind, so I don't really care what happens outside... and when you see yourself as a black belt world champion, you start taking the same actions every day... you starting just being that thing, eating right, training more..."

The recent European Champion met up with frequent FloGrappling commentator and jiu-jitsu analyst John Evans in New York City ahead of the Spyder Qualifier event set to take the jump off March 2 in Seoul, Korea.

Levi is slated to compete in the exceptional -76kg bracket. His first match sees him face rising checkmat brown belt Mathias Luna, and should the Unity athlete advance– barring any major upset– he'll likely take on the legendary Osvaldo 'Queixinho' Moizinho.

Across from Jones-Leary stand four incredible athletes: Augusto "Tanquinho" Mendes, Lucas Rocha, KASAI breakout star Matheus Lutes, and purple belt newcomer Daniel Sathler.

Regardless of how the bracket will exactly play out, it's certain to be an incredible show.
