Gabriel Sousa, full name 'Joao Gabriel Batista de Sousa', officially claimed his position as the #1 ranked UAEJJF black belt after winning the 2019 World Pro 62kg division. 

And though Sousa claimed the top spot for much of the season,  a knee injury sustained at the 2018 Rio Grand Slam threw a wrench Sousa's game plan and mindset for the rest of the season.  Thankfully, strong support from his teammates reignited his mental fortitude and gave him the will to throw himself back into competition.
