Thalison Soares: The Path to Black Belt Part 3
The poor kid from Manaus who sold raffle tickets to compete can now be found regularly competing on different continents in back-to-back weeks.
From sleeping on the street in Sao Paulo to teaching seminar tours in Europe, Asia and Australia, Thalison’s journey has brought him a long way at a very young age.
“Many things have changed. I have met many people around the world, and this is helping me to evolve more, as an athlete and a human being. I am grateful for all that I have and for what I have gone through. Everything was an apprenticeship. I can appreciate it all, value everything I have now and look forward to helping others.”
In April of 2019 Thalison ran through the 56kg brown belt division to win gold at the Abu Dhabi World Pro, which sealed his position as the no.1-ranked brown belt in the world for the 2018-19 season.
In this episode we follow Thalison in Abu Dhabi as he wins gold and takes his award at the glittering end-of-year ceremony– it's a long way from Manaus!
