During Rafael Lovato Jr's first trip to Brazil for the 2000 IBJJF World Championships he was just a blue belt trying to climb the ranks. In the absolute division he would face a much smaller competitor Augusto 'Tanquinho' Mendes.

Both men would go on to establish themselves as World Champion black belts and World Champion MMA fighters, but they first met sixteen years ago on the green and yellow mats of Mundials. Watch the entire match above.
