It is day three here at the 2023 IBJJF European Championship in Paris, France and that means the purple belts have taken the mats! 

One purple belt standout is the female middleweight from Trondheim BJJ, Selma Vik. Selma first came on to our radar at the 2022 European Championship in Rome where she took gold in middleweight and then silver in the absolute, losing to Nia Blackman in the final.

Vik always brings an exciting style and hard fought battles to the mat, and it was no different here in Paris! Selma was dominant in four matches on her road to gold. She had two submissions and outscored her opponents 27-0.

In the final, Vik met Gabriela Barraso from Double Five. Vik’s top game and relentless pressure proved victorious once again and she took the win on points, 8-0.
