3 Key Brown Belt Matches To Watch For At Euros Tomorrow

Dozens of athletes competing at tomorrow's male brown belt day warrant attention (here are some we have our eyes on) But there are three potential matchups we're hopeful to see during Friday's competition. Here's what we're looking out for:

Eduardo Granzotto vs Yarin Chriki

In the brown belt featherweight division, this potential semi-final match that could easily be the match of the day at the Europeans. Two-time world champion Eduardo Granzotto Lima, "Dudu," needs little to no introduction, is the frontrunner in the division, and has attracted heaps of attention after a successful 2022.

However, standing in his way of the gold medal is last year's purple belt European featherweight champion, Yarin Chriki from Soulfighters Israel. There are strong chances that they will meet at the semis. The winner of this match should be the favorite to conquer the whole division. A potential disruptor for the division could be the winner of the first round match-up between dark horses, Haniel Schucman from Atos & Jhonathan Frota from Qatar BJJ.

Kirk Breneman vs Karl Pegers

In the brown belt lightweight division, this potential quarterfinals match can be everything a Jiu-Jitsu fan can hope for. Kirk Breneman, the decorated submission specialist from Movement Art is looking to win his first European title. Standing in his way is European Medallist and no.1 seed, Karl Pegers from Stark Jiu-Jitsu. In order for them to meet Kirk has to win two fights; Karl has to win one. The winner of this quarterfinal would appear to have a clear road to gold.

Uanderson Ferreira: The favourite

If you are not familiar with Uanderson, go back and watch his highlight reel run at the 2020 IBJJF European Championships or his matches at the 2022 AJP King of the Mats in London where he took out Tommy Langaker and Lucas Gualberto as a brown belt. He is the favourite to win double gold with his electrifying style, stand-up game and lightning fast submissions.

His toughest test will be the hungry and game Rayron Gracie, who will be looking to finish what he started in Rome last year. In the previous edition of Euros, Rayron managed to earn a bronze medal in his division, a result which left him unsatisfied. Good fortune would put Ferreira and Gracie on opposite sides of the absolute bracket; this would be a final for the ages.
