Atos Juveniles Shine, Kauane & Crevar Win Big On Day 2 Of IBJJF Worlds

World champions were crowned in women's brown belt, juvenile blue belts, and male purple belt, with everything gearing up for black belts tomorrow.

Atos Juveniles Shine, Kauane & Crevar Win Big On Day 2 Of IBJJF Worlds

Day two of the 2023 IBJJF World Championships has concluded and champions have been crowned in nearly every colored belt divisions for male and female athletes. On Friday, juvenile athletes, blue and brown belt women, and purple belt men competed, with a standout performances from double gold medalist brown belt Kauane Ramos da Silva standing as the most impressive feat of the day.

Kauane, of Fight Sports Brasil, won female super-heavyweight and the open class, defeating Michelle Dunchus in both finals to cap off a 6-0 run on her day. 

Other standout performers among brown belt women included champions Shelby Murphey, Abbi Pontes, Heloysa Oliveira, and Maria Carolina Vicentini, as well as double medalist Nia Blackman.

Also fought on Friday were the juvenile blue and purple belts, and every year they have some of the best matches of the tournament. Atos had a great run in the female divisions, with Alexa Herse and Sarah Galvao both winning double gold in juvenile 1 and 2 respectively, and Helena Crevar tapped her way to double gold in juvenile 1 in impressive fashion. Oliver Silvestro took double gold in the male divisions, winning both the super-heavyweight and open heavy class.

A majority of the purple belt men competed on Friday, as roosterweight through medium-heavyweight was contested (heavyweight and up, as well as the absolute, will follow tomorrow). 

Rafael Borges of DreamArt (double gold at Pans) and Takeshiro Yuuki of Atos both impressed, as well as champion Miguel Costa Campos.

The female blue belt open class champion was Luandra Barbosa of DreamArt, who won gold after a bronze medal finish at middleweight. 

In the absolute finals, she defeated Eliza Nascimento of Nova Uniao, who tapped her way through five matches for lightweight gold. Also impressive in their championship runs were Olivia Brown, Sabrina Lourenco, and Fernanda Pontes.
