The black belt open class brackets are now out for the 2024 IBJJF European Championships, kicking off in Paris, France tomorrow at 9:30am GMT.

The biggest name, and the no.1 seed in the male bracket is Gutemberg Pereira, who recently moved to Art of Jiu-Jitsu to start his 2024 campaign. He'll be the favorite in this division, with his stiffest potential opposition coming from longtime training partner Mauricio Oliviera, former GF Team teammate Harryson Perreira, Atos representative Pedro Machado and rookie black belt Rayron Gracie.

After winning an open weight world title at brown belt last season, Gracie will be looking for his first IBJJF major gold, close to his newly adopted home in London, where he trains with Roger Gracie.

No surprise in the women's absolute bracket: Gabrieli Pessanha is the no.1 seed and the favorite, looking for her tenth consecutive double gold performance at an IBJJF major, with hopes of kicking off a third straight double grand slam season. Pessanha has been utterly unstoppable in the last few years. Her biggest challenge could come in the semis, where she's likely to run into longtime rival Yara Soares. The favorite on the other side of the bracket is Thalyta Lima, who Pessanha has met in the last two editions of Euros in the open class final. But Lima will have stiff competition in no.4 seed Melissa Cueto, a likely semifinal opponent.
