The 2024 World Jiu-Jitsu IBBJF World Championships are May 29-June 2, so it's time to recap all of the past winners in all of the weight classes. 

After looking at the all-time Featherweight class winners.

Next up it's the Lightweight class, some argue one of the most competitive divisions in jiu-jitsu. 

Brazilians quite literally dominate this weight class since no non-Brazilian athlete won until Tye Ruotolo and Ffion Davies won in the Lightweight in 2022.

Here are the rest of the Lightweight winners in the division since 1996 at IBJJF Worlds.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 1996: Paulo Barrosa

This is Barrosa's first and only IBBJF World Championship title. The next year after he won his IBJJF Worlds titles, he won an IBJJF Worlds silver medal then again in 1999.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 1997, 2001, 2002: Marcio Feitosa

Feitosa is a three-time IBJJF World champion. Two of his IBBJF Worlds titles were won back-to-back. He also won an ADCC Championship during the year he won his second IBJJF Worlds title. Feitosa is also a four-time IBJJF Pans Champion. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 1998: Leo Vieira

This is Vieira's first and only IBBJF World Championship title, but he did win two IBJJF Pans Championships in 2003 and 2005. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 1999, 2000: Vitor Ribeiro

Riberio won his only IBBJF Worlds title back-to-back. He won silver the year before his first IBJJF world title. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2003, 2004: Daniel Moraes

Moraes won both of his IBBJF World Championship titles back-to-back. He also won the 2008 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2005, 2006, 2008: Celso Vinicius

Vinicius is a three-time IBJJF World Champion. The same year he won his last IBJJF World title, he won an IBJJF Pan American Championship. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2007, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019: Lucas Lepri

Lepri is a six-time IBJJF World Champion, winning three of his IBJJF titles straight. He is also a three-time IBJJF No-Gi World Champion.

 Lepri is also known as one of the most successful winners in the Lightweight division. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2009, 2010, 2015: Michael Langhi

Langhi is a three-time IBJJF World Champion. All of his IBJJF titles came in the lightweight division. He is also a five-time IBJJF Pans Champion. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2011: Gilbert Burns

This is Barrosa's first and only IBBJF World Championship title. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2012, 2013: Leandro Lo

Lo is an eight-time IBJJF World Champion. He won two of his IBJJF titles in the lightweight class. 

He is one of the most decorated athletes in the Gi sphere. Lo is also a six-time IBJJF Pans Champion.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2021: Renato Canuto

This is Canuto's first and only IBJJF World Champion title. He had previously won the 2017 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2022: Tye Ruotolo

This is Ruotolo's first and only IBJJF World Championship title. He is the first American to ever win an IBJJF title in the Lightweight division. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2023: Johnatha Alves

This is Alves first and only IBJJF World Championship title. He is also a four-time IBJJF Pans Champion. Alves is the reigning champion in the lightweight division and looks to defend his title at the 2024 IBJJF World Championship. 

Women’s Lightweight IBJJF Weight Class Champions

Here are all of the Lightweight women’s winners. IBJJF has had the Lightweight Women's weight class since 1998.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 1998: Tais Ramos

This is Ramos' first and only IBJJF World Championship title, but it was historic because she was the sport’s first female world champion under the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF).

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 1999, 2002, 2005: Alessandra Vieira

Vieira is a three-time IBJJF World Champion, winning her IBJJF titles in a span of a few years. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2000: Alessandre Oliveira

This is Oliveira's first and only IBJJF World Championship title. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2001: Claudia Oliveira

This is Oliveira's first and only IBJJF World Championship title. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2003, 2004, 2007: Hanette Staack

Staack is a five-time IBJJF World champion. Her first three IBJJF titles were won in the Lightweight division.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2006, 2008, 2010: Kyra Gracie

Gracie is a three-time IBJJF World champion. All of her IBJJF titles in the Lightweight divisions, she is also a three-time ADCC Champion. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2009, 2011: Luanna Alzuguir

Alzuguir is a four-time IBJJF World champion. She won two of her IBJJF titles in the Lightweight division. 

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021: Beatriz Mesquita

Mesquita is an eight-time IBJJF World champion, winning all of her IBJJF titles in the Lightweight division.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2017 and 2024: Luiza Monteiro

Monteiro is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. She won two of her title in the Lightweight division. She is also a nine-time IBJJF Pans Champion.

IBJJF Lightweight Champion In 2022 and 2023: Ffion Davies

Davis is the first Brazilian woman to win the Lightweight division in the history of the weight class. 

She is the current champion and looks to defend her title at the 2024 IBJJF World Championships.
