The ADCC Field At -99kg Complete With Announcement of Nicholas Meregali

The 2024 ADCC field at -99kg is complete, with all 16 invitations being set with the addition of Nicholas Meregali. Meregali won a silver and bronze medal in his debut ADCC performance and since then has set himself apart as one of the best no-gi athletes on Earth. He enters the tournament as one of the biggest favorites for double gold in the event.

The division is currently ruled by Kaynan Duarte, the returning champion and two-time gold medalist. However, Meregali has since faced and defeated Kaynan in superfight action at WNO 21 - finishing the fight with a kata gatame in the final few minutes. He has also defeated other ADCC champions like Felipe Pena, Cyborg, and Matheus Diniz in his undefeated run since ADCC.

The -99kg at ADCC, as it stands currently, will be:

-99kg

  • Kaynan Duarte (Returning Champion, invited) | Brazil
  • Nicholas Meregali (Returning Medalist, Invited) | Brasil
  • Rafael Lovato Jr. (Invited) | United States
  • Cyborg Abreu (Invited) | Brazil
  • Mason Fowler (Invited) | United States
  • Roberto Jimenez (Invited) | Ecuador
  • Luke Griffith (1st European Trials winner) | South Africa
  • Paul Ardila (East Coast Trials winner) | United States
  • Declan Moody (1st Asia & Oceania Trials winner) | Australia
  • Marcin Maciulewicz (2nd European Trials winner) | Poland
  • Cassio Felipe Costa (1st South American Trials winner) | Brazil
  • Henrique Ceconi (2nd South American Trials winner) | Brazil
  • Michael Pixley (West Coast Trials winner) | United States
  • Daniel Schuardt (2nd Asia & Oceania Trials winner) | Australia
  • Eli Braz (Invited) | Brazil
  • Alex Grandy (Invited) | United States

With ADCC, something to keep in mind is that teammates must face off in the first or second round - meaning all 4 semifinalists must be from different teams. For this -99kg division, that right now would affect:

  • Nicholas Meregali & Luke Griffith
  • Rafael Lovato Jr. & Cassio Felipe Costa
