With a mix of high-level action and unique stipulation matches between big personalities, Main Character Jiu-Jitsu is bringing a crazy night to Austin

Main Character Jiu-Jitsu's first event with FloGrappling is going down March 30th in Austin, TX - and for anyone who hasn't seen a Main Character show yet you are in for a unique night of big personalities and world class action. The show will be main evented by ADCC & CJI veteran Andy Varela taking on IBJJF World No-Gi Champion Wallisson Oliveira in a 180lb bout, but by the time they take the mats some wild stuff will already have gone down.

Main Character is one of grappling's most inventive shows, constantly looking for ways to make matches stand out, let personalities shine, and add stipulations that drive the stakes of a contest way up. That is mixed with strong main events featuring some of the best in the world, and a strong emphasis on booking some of the most consistently impressive women's action of any promotion. It's a really different kind of show that will be on FloGrappling next month.
Andy Varela takes on Wallisson Oliveira in the main event in a 180lb matchup between aggressive grapplers with violent styles. Andy has made his name with his wrestling, pace, intensity, and pitbull attitude. He's faced all the top guys and been a fixture on the Main Character scene with crowd-pleasing performances. He takes on Atos's Wallisson Oliveira, the reigning IBJJF World No-Gi champion at medium-heavy black belt. Oliveira, ranked top-10 at 185lbs in FloGrappling's world rankings, went on a crazy run to end the year with submission wins over some top contenders. It's a great test for him to see if that momentum can continue against someone as battle tested as Varela. Wallisson has a really good style and a good resume, he just needs more opportunities - this could be that for him. Varela needs some big wins to get back on the right track - this could be that for him. There's a lot on the line for both men.

In the co-main event of the show will be MCJJ's most consistent champion Mo Black taking on Natasha Druggan for the promotion's 135lb championship. Mo has had a consistent grind to the top, currently sitting as third in our world no-gi rankings at the weight class after a trip to the IBJJF No-Gi World finals and a win in the ADCC East Coast Trials finals. She's held this belt since its inception and looks to defend against Druggan. Natasha is a very skilled grappler who just recently got promoted to black belt by Bruno Bastos after winning double gold at brown belt at the IBJJF No-Gi Worlds. While she's currently outside the rankings of top-15, it's only by a spot - she would be 16th if we expanded them. This match is the biggest opportunity of her career to-date, and I'm interested to see how she approaches it.

Mixed in with the grappling stars are some matches with some unconventional stipulations. There's more on the line in these matches than just money and a hand raise, these grapplers are all so confident they will win they've put up something extra.
Have you ever really wanted to slap someone you didn't like? In the first stipulation match, Katie Bochenek will grapple Katie Laablalli. Whoever wins, in what is fairly being described as a 'grudge match', will get the opportunity to give their losing opponent 3 power slaps right there on the mat. Full wind-up, no blocking, no defending. Personal issues have escalated between the two and now they settle it by mutually agreeing to an impactful conclusion.
In the second special stipulation matchup, we have a good old fashioned tattoo bet. Joseph Carroll (USA) and Gavin Stewart (Canada) have agreed to face off in a match where the loser gets the flag of the winner's home country on them. There's national pride and genuine physical consequences on the line for these two as a tattoo artist will be on the mat waiting to pay off that bet live on FloGrappling.
