Nothing is guaranteed in Jiu-Jitsu, as anyone can be beaten at any given time, but that doesn't mean surprises can't happen.

In the Women's Super Heavy finals at the 2025 IBJJF Brasileiro, powerhouse Gabi Pessanha lost to Tayane Porfírio, which was Pessanha's first loss in nearly 200 matches coming into the Grand Slam.

For Porfírio, this is only the second time in seven matches with Pessanha that she has come out on the winning side, with her last win over the black belt since 2001 at the BJJ Bet.

The two faced off twice last week at the BJJ Stars 15 when Pessanha submitted Porfírio both times to successfully defend the absolute championship.

However, that proved only to help Porfírio get more prepared for the eventual matchup at Brasiliero, who received the win on Sunday by points 4-0 to become a black belt IBJJF Grand Slam champion for the first time.
