Kit Dale Pulls Off Upset Over Legend Xande Ribeiro At WNO 28
Kit Dale shocks Xande Ribeiro

Sporting a handle-bar mustache and a goal of beating a jiu-jitsu hall of famer on June 13, Kit Dale stunned the WNO 28 crowd in Costa Mesa, Calif when the Australian beat Xande Ribeiro.
The two veteran grapplers withstood a grueling 15 minute match. At the end of the fight, judges favored Dale, 39, who later said he was ramping back into jiu-jitsu after working on a movie. His win over Ribeiro, who won his first WNO match in April, wasn't always cinematic, but it was a thrill ride.
"It was a lot of fun," Dale told FloGraplling after the match. "I did what I tried to set out and do... to get a win against a legend of the sport-- it's awesome."

Dale said he was working to avoid trying to play a submission game with Ribeiro.
"He's far more dangerous with submissions than I am, by a mile," Dale said. "I didn't really want to play that game with him."
Avoiding a submission by Ribeiro isn't easy. FloGrappling analyst Joe Gilpin said earlier this month that Ribeiro has a case to be the greatest grappler ever.

"Xande Ribeiro has a great claim to be the number one grappler of all time, the number one jiu-jitsu fighter of all time," Gilpin said. "Kit might not have the world championships of Xande, but he has tons of respect from the jiu-jitsu community because of how he came up, which is very unique."
Dale has experience facing legends, including Andre Galvao. He also is credited with helping set the Australian standard, something Declan Moody helped raise with a submission win earlier in the night.

"(Dale) taken on tons of legends and held his own and really helped set the standard that we see out of Australia now," Gilpin said.
