What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu

-A few more matches were announced for WNO 29, going down in Miami, FL on July 25th. The currently announced card is:

  • Bantamweight Bout - Adele Fornarino vs Jasmine Rocha
  • Light Heavyweight Bout - Roberto Jimenez vs Ryan Aitken
  • Light Heavyweight Bout - Kit Dale vs Vagner Rocha
  • Welterweight Bout - Michael Sainz vs Natan Chueng

-Team North America won the women's squads event at Polaris 32, beating Team Europe 11-10. Notable performers include Margot Ciccarelli (scored five straight wins) and Sula-Mae Loewenthal (beat Helena Crevar in the closing match of the day, tho it was a shortened round). Full recap here

-UFC BJJ held their first rebranded event and crowned three weight class champions, all of whom are now under exclusive contract. Those champions are Andrew Tackett (170lbs), Mikey Musumeci (135lbs), and Carlos Henrique (155lbs). Full recap here.

-IBJJF American Nationals went down, with plenty of interesting matches and results. The biggest stand outs among black belts were from Atos with Sarah Galvão, Helder José, Leticia Teixeira, and Amanda Bruse all winning double gold. All matches currently available exclusively on FloGrappling. Results are here for gi and no-gi.

-Team Kasai won the AIGA Champion's League, locking up the championship match 5-2. They take home half of the total $1,000,000 pool. Standout performers include Roberto Jimenez, Fabricio Andrey, and Dorian Olivarez.

-Rafael Lovato Jr. became the first person in history to win all four IBJJF majors in gi and no-gi adult black belt, capturing the gold at No-Gi Brasileiros in the super-heavy division. Gabi Pessanha also won double gold. Results are here.

-BJJ Stars announced their next card, including a heavyweight GP and several title matches. Of note, World Champion Ana Rodrigues will return after ACL surgery to face Julia Alves.

-ONE Championship announced that Cole Abate and Sam Nagai will face off at ONE Fight Night 35 in early September.

-Francisco Lo was suspended three years after an adverse result stemming from a USADA test at IBJJF Pans. He forfeits his gold medal from the event, which now goes to Mathias Luna. Lo tested positive for anabolic agents nandrolone and DHCMT.

-After failing to make the European Misfits team for CJI 2, Taylor Pearman will step in as the -88kg wildcard representative for Team Americas.

-PGF held their draft for Season 8, featuring the 155lb division. The teams are:

What's Coming Up In BJJ

  • July 25th: WNO comes to Miami! We have already announced a bunch of major matchups, including Vagner Rocha vs Kit Dale, Adele Fornarino vs Jasmine Rocha, and more. Expect more major matches this week!
  • July 26th: BJJ Stars 16 is coming to you from Sao Paulo with. no-gi GP and several title matches. This is Brazil's biggest and best super fight show and it always delivers on action.
  • August 6th: The ADCC season begins again as the European, Middle East, & African Trials begins. Five men's trials winners will advance to the 2026 World Championships.
  • August 28-30th: The IBJJF Master Worlds & Jiu-Jitsu Con is back! This is one of the busiest tournaments in jiu-jitsu, with lots of fun stuff for fans to do.
  • August 30-31st: CJI 2, featuring 8 star-studded teams competing for a $1,000,000 prize, airs live on YouTube for grappling fans everywhere to enjoy
