What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu

-Vagner Rocha will join Team New Wave at CJI 2 as the group's second wild card. He will be taking up the -88kg spot while Bodoni and Griffith bump up. Read more here.

-We at FloGrappling will be releasing a film about the Super Grand Slam year of Mica Galvão.

-PGF Season 8 has only one week left in the regular season. Team Dollamur is on top of the team race, but the Alabama Twisters are only two points back. Top-8 points earners will advance to the individual playoffs. Find out more here.

-BJJ Stars announced that BJJ Stars 17 will feature a 70kg no-gi grand prix (roughly 155lbs). There is no confirmation yet on athletes, but one spot will be filled by the winner of a mini-tournament feating several interesting Brazilian up-and-comers.

-Yatan Bueno announced he will be moving from Fratres Jiu-Jitsu to the BJJ College run by Melqui Galvão. The big man adds a new dimension of size and power to their team.

-Sam Nagai joined Team South America for the upcoming Polaris Squads event. At the same event, Polaris 33, Owen Livesey and Tommy Langaker will face off for the promotion's 93kg (205lb) championship.

-IBJJF Open Round Up:

• Wesley Felix, a former brown belt world champion with Qatar BJJ/Vision Brasil, won double gold at the Fortaleza Open. The super-heavyweight had a solid debut year at black belt, including a medal at Euros, and continues to build on that success. Amanda Magda of Fratres won double gold for the women, though with only three matches total.
• Purple belt Maycon "Black Panther" Gabriel of ZR Team won double gold at the same event. He was the favorite for blue belt open class this year at Worlds before getting promoted to purple belt just before. He was dominant in his campaign leading up to that.

-Fabricio Andrey will return against Eduardo Granzotto at ONE Fight Night 36. CheckMat's Granzotto defeated Andrey by points at IBJJF Worlds earlier this year.

-Standard's Sid Tavolaro won the JitzKing 155lb $10,000 Grand Prix, beating teammate Filipe Valentim in the finals. It was a really solid bracket featuring (among others) Tristan Sainz and Mason O'Dell.

What's Coming Up In BJJ

• August 28-30th: The IBJJF Master Worlds & Jiu-Jitsu Con is back! This is one of the busiest tournaments in jiu-jitsu, with lots of fun stuff for fans to do.
• August 30-31st: CJI 2, featuring 8 star-studded teams competing for a $1,000,000 prize, airs live on YouTube for grappling fans everywhere to enjoy
• September 6th: The ADCC season begins again as the European, Middle East, & African Trials begins. Five men's trials winners will advance to the 2026 World Championships.
• September 20th: Ocean BJJ Pro Championship is happening again at -80kg and +80kg, with champions Tarik Hopstock and Luccas Lira in the mix the defend their titles.
