What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu

-Lachlan Giles submitted the greatest grappler of all time Marcelo Garcia at ONE Fight Night over the weekend, using a twisting kneebar variation that was quickly dubbed 'The Lachy Lock'. Watch Lachlan show the move at ADCC Trials the next day. After the match, Lachlan had the advice that everyone should be more like Marcelo Garcia.

-WNO 31: Pena vs Griffith went down in Round Rock, TX, with Luke Griffith capturing the heavyweight title by submission in the main event. There was some controversy after the match, with Felipe Pena taking offense with how long Luke held the choke after he tapped. You can hear Luke's thoughts here. Also on the card, Helena Crevar defended her WNO championship and #1 ranking with an achilles lock win against Julia Boscher.

-Also at WNO 31, after a contentious press conference Faris Benlamkadem used his wrestling and top game to win against legend Xande Ribeiro. Gabi Pessanha won her no-gi super fight debut with a thorough-but-competitive 15 minute decision against Paige Ivette Clymer. Chris Wojcik on short noticed showed off a new aspect of his game with wrestling and passing for the decision win and Felipe 'Laranjinha' Costa won the match of the night by submitting Abe La Montagne late. You can still watch every match here.

-Five more men punched their tickets to the 2026 Worlds at the ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials, with especially notable runs from Izaak Michell at -77kg, Jozef Chen at -88kg, and Nico Maglicic at -99kg. The event did get criticism for having very little matting on top of the concrete floor. Read more about the entire tournament here.

-The IBJJF announced that the 2025 World No-Gi Championship has broken the record for biggest no-gi event in the company's history! They have over 4,000 people ready to compete across the 3 days - Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week!

-Brackets have been released for the 2025 IBJJF World Championships, find them all here.

-Diogo Reis beat Daiki Yonekura at ONE Fight NIght 38 to capture the promotion's 135lb championship - a belt once held by Mikey Musumeci. After the match, Reis said that he suffered from several drops in blood pressure that left him with low energy but he managed to hold on for the title win.

-After all that, no-gi world rankings have been updated. So have ADCC power rankings.

-Pat Shahgholi won the Finishers BMF Championship in a rubber match with Steve Joachim at Finishers: Season's Beatings. Pat is a Finishers double champ now, also holding the heavyweight title. Pat made headlines as a young kid who would attack submissions very aggressively but he's really developed way past that into a legit contender. Also on the Finishers card, Andrew DeGraff submitted Kevin Dantzler at 135lbs to win the promotional title. Watch the full event live on YouTube here.

-Actor, director, and screenwriter Guy Ritchie was promoted to third degree black belt by Roger Gracie, on behalf of his cousin Renzo.
