What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu
-Brackets have dropped for the IBJJF World Championships, beginning this week live on FloGrappling and running Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can find more information about the entire event here or here.
-#1 Mikey Musumeci retained his UFC BJJ bantamweight championship with a first round submission win over #16 Kevin Dantzler at UFC BJJ 8. In the event's co-main event, #1 Cassia Moura retained her own bantamweight title over #19 Sabrina Gondim. Other winners included Jett Thompson, William Tackett, Ethan Crelinsten, and Keith Krikorian.
-Fight To Win held their first Brazilian event over the weekend in Sao Paulo. There were dozens of matches in front of a really energetic crowd who were excited to see the promotion finally debut in the homeland of jiu-jitsu. The entire event is available now on FloGrappling and F2W is back at it this weekend with a Sub Kumite event in Reno, NV.
-Polaris announced the first athlete who will compete in this July's welterweight grand prix, Deandre Corbe of Standard jiu-jitsu. Corbe has previously been ranked #1 in the world at 155lbs and it seems he is moving up to 170lbs long term.
-Polaris also announced the final two members of the BJJ Stars squad coming to challenge Team Polaris - Ruan Alvarenga and Julio Martins. Also, Pawel Jaworski now steps in to replace Owen Jones.
-PGF announced they will be doubling their number of teams next season, from 4 to 8, in a significant expansion. They will also double the number of broadcasts with two a week and for the first time they will feature multiple weight classes.
-UFC BJJ will begin to host their own open tournaments. The first will take place August 22nd in Las Vegas, with three more planned for 2026.
-The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam held their final event of the 2026 season (in Abu Dhabi), with 12 champions crowned in the top divisions.
-BJJ Stars has announced a new event coming July 31st, the "World Cup". Details will follow about format but it seems they want this event to represent a high level of prestige.
-Also in BJJ Stars news, Nicolas Vieira won a teen qualifier tournament over the weekend and he will be the one taking on James Ortiz later this summer.
-UFC BJJ announced several upcoming matches, including #7 Mason Fowler taking on #14 Devhonte Johnson at UFC BJJ 9 for the promotional 205lb championship and the return of IBJJF World Champion Gilbert Burns.
-Yan Pica-Pau defeated Kemoy Anderson in the main event of Elevate Submission Series to capture their promotional 205lb championship.
-3-Time ADCC World Champion Yuri Simoes returned to MMA with a first round submission win at EMC Talents to push his record to 1-2.
-We missed this last week, but ADCC veteran Dillon Danis will be in a freestyle wrestling match on June 13th when he takes on former UFC Middleweight Champion Khamzat Chimaev at Real American Freestyle.
-Sub Hunter Pro, a Houston-based promotion that airs on Fight Pass, will be running a June 5th card with $5000 on the line in a 145lb tournament. The first round matches in the bracket will be Damion Oranday vs Ben Eddy, Chase Sosa vs Kleber Barboza, Jordan Holy vs Niko Martinez, and Alexandre Duarte vs Andrew DeGraff.
-LIJJN will feature a really exciting match this August! August 1st at the World Trade Center, Oliver Taza will face off with Sebastian Rodriguez in middleweight action streaming live on FloGrappling.

We have TWO ADCC Opens this weekend for fans to enjoy, going down in Atlanta and Petropolis. Atlanta often gets a lot of the best Florida talent coming up and the Georgia scene is growing steadily with multiple world-ranked grapplers in the state. Petropolis is in Rio de Janeiro and will surely bring out some fun Brazilian talent of all ages.
