The 2026 ADCC World Championship is set for Sept. 12-13 in Kraków, Poland, bringing the world's best submission grapplers together for another highly anticipated championship.

The 2017 ADCC World Championship in Espoo, Finland, delivered plenty of memorable moments as the sport's biggest names battled for supremacy.

So, before the next chapter begins, let's step back into 2017 and relive the stories that made those Worlds one to remember.

Where Was The ADCC 2017 World Championships?

The 2017 ADCC World Championships took place on Sept. 23-24, 2017, at the Espoo Metro Areena in Espoo, Finland.

Gordon Ryan And JT Torres Announce Their Arrival

The 2017 ADCC Worlds was a major breakthrough for American grappling, with Gordon Ryan and JT Torres both capturing ADCC gold. Ryan won the -88kg division and added a silver medal in the Absolute, while Torres defeated Lucas Lepri to claim the -77kg title. Ryan, in particular, entered the tournament with plenty of doubters but delivered one of the most impressive performances of the event.

Cobrinha Completes The Super Grand Slam

Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles capped of an incredible 2017 season by making ADCC history. The 37-year-old Alliance black belt had won four major IBJJF tournaments that year including: the Europeans, Pans, Brazilian Nationals and Worlds, completing the traditional Grand Slam.

Cobrinha defeated AJ Agazarm in the 66kg division to be crowned gold, which he became the first grappler to accomplish what was dubbed the "Super Grand Slam." His run included wins over Uranov Zhakshylyk, Kuba Witkowski, Paulo Miyao and Agazarm, and he did not surrender a single point throughout the tournament.
