Dorian Olivarez has provided his account of the events that led to his disqualification from the 2026 ADCC World Championships after a chaotic opening-round match against Bekzat Zapashov on Saturday in Krakow, Poland.

Olivarez advanced on the mat with a submission victory over Zapashov, but his tournament ended shortly afterward following an incident that began during the match and escalated after it concluded.

Olivarez Describes Controversial Match

Speaking to FloGrappling after the match, Olivarez said the controversy began while he was working from mount against Zapashov.

According to Olivarez, Zapashov bit his finger during the exchange, leading to a stoppage by officials.

"Once I'm in mount, he grabs my hand, puts it in his mouth and then bites down on my finger," Olivarez said.

The match was briefly halted, and Olivarez said he initially believed he had been disqualified. Officials later allowed the match to continue, and he went on to submit Zapashov.

Tensions Escalate After The Match

The situation did not end when the match was over.

Olivarez said a verbal exchange near the competition area led to a larger confrontation involving multiple people after he left the mat. He described the aftermath as chaotic and credited family members and members of the Saints team with helping restore order.

"It was a pretty crazy moment," Olivarez said.

The incident followed one of the most controversial matches of the opening day of competition.

ADCC Removes Both Competitors

Following the altercation, ADCC officials removed both Olivarez and Zapashov from the tournament.

Owen Jones, who had been eliminated earlier in the day in the -66kg division, was added back into the bracket as a replacement competitor.

ADCC officials also announced that both Olivarez and Zapashov will receive one-year suspensions from ADCC competition.
