Luke Griffith pulled off the reversal of the century at the 2026 ADCC World Championships, submitting Kaynan Duarte in the -99kg division after looking down and out.
Duarte had controlled the majority of the match, but one mistake from the Brazilian gave Griffith access to his back, securing a rear-naked choke and winning his first ADCC World Championship.

He becomes the first South African to win a gold medal since 2007 and the first South African male to medal since 2001.

Luke Griffith Avenges 2024 ADCC Final Loss
At the 2024 ADCC World Championship, Felipe Pena submitted Luke Griffith in the gold medal match with a rear-naked choke. He’d looked dominant in the match before Pena reversed and forced him to submit.
Two years later, Griffith secured his first ADCC gold medal by countering a bad shot from Kaynan Duarte and executing the same choke in a very similar manner.
Kaynan Duarte Will Still Compete In The Superfight
Despite failing to win his third consecutive gold medal in the -99kg division, Kaynan Duarte’s time at the 2026 ADCC Finals isn’t done.
The Brazilian star will still compete in the Superfight, where he’ll face 2022 Absolute Division winner Yuri Simoes to cap off the action at the second day in Poland.
