Jiu-Jitsu Fighters And Their Unusual Hobbies
We all know about Eddie Bravo’s passion for music and Rickson Gracie’s love of surfing. Training and competing jiu-jitsu as a full-time athlete doesn’t leave too much time for extra-curricular activities, but we managed to identify and collect together a few examples of what black belts get up to in their spare time.

Kron Gracie – Skateboarding

‘Ice Cream’ Kron’s first sponsor wasn’t a gi company, but in fact were skate shops when he was a teenager. While Gracie is a life-long jiu-jitsu practitioner, at one point he seriously considered going all-in on skateboarding.

Kron says that he enjoys cruising on Sundays as a way to escape and let off some steam after a hard week of training for his burgeoning MMA career. he admits he needs to be careful, though; he had broken both of his ankles by the age of 12 while skating, and once hurt his wrist before a big tournament while skating the bowl at Venice Beach.

Kron even built a mini-ramp outside his gym so he can skate whenever he feels like it.

__________

Royce Gracie – Shooting

Jiu-jitsu legend Royce Gracie is better known for shooting double-legs than firearms, but is a true gun-nut and can often be found at the range.

Big into tactical shooting, Royce loves the discipline of shooting and even takes his family along to join in the fun, taking along his sons and his daughter!

I love going down the range, it calms me down. At the same time, I’m doing speed drills. I love that stuff.

Royce’s Instagram feed is full of gun posts, including a sweet custom handgun with a Gracie jiu-jitsu logo.

__________

AJ Agazarm – Skydiving

Gracie Barra black belt AJ Agazarm is a bona-fide thrill-seeker. From scuba diving to snowboarding and even sky diving, Agazarm is an adrenaline junkie. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to jump out of a plane, check out his flying armbar below!

__________

Geo Martinez – Breakdancing

Technically this is less of a hobby and more of a parallel career. Geo ‘Freakazoid’ Martinez isn’t just a 10th Planet jiu-jitsu black belt under Eddie Bravo – he’s also a member of the ‘Freakshow’ B-Boy crew where he battles other B-boys under the name Freakazoid.

Check out this sick battle for a display of his skills! (Starts 0.20)

__________

Almost Everybody Else – Surfing

Marcus ‘Buchecha’, Rickson and Royler Gracie, Marry Sperry… it’s no surprise that many of jiu-jitsu’s biggest names love to surf. Brazil has some of the best breaks in the world, and what perfect way to relax from tough jiu-jitsu training than with a dip in the ocean and a few waves under a glorious sun?
