IBJJF Confirm Heel Hooks For Black & Brown Belts in 2021

FloGrappling can officially confirm the introduction of heel hooks and reaping in IBJJF tournaments in 2021, affecting the brown and black adult divisions in no-gi events.

Starting next year competitors will be permitted to use twisting leg locks including the inside and outside heel hook.

The IBJJF confirmed the news during the 2020 Pan Championship in Kissimmee, Florida.

The new rule will come into effect in 2021, although the exact date is yet to be decided.

It will not apply to the upcoming IBJJF Pan No-Gi scheduled for November 2020.

The IBJJF will release an updated version of their official rule book soon with more details. The updated rule book will also include manufacturing specifications about competition-legal gis and small updates to existing rules, such as penalties for fleeing the area during a match.
