The strawweight division quickly became the most exciting weight class in women's jiu-jitsu over the last year, and the matches at the WNO Championship only further cemented this division in that place. 

Mayssa Bastos ended up taking home the $30k and title belt in the end, but every girl in this bracket contributed to exciting matches and showed why fans are so into this division. This was the only weight with all 12 possible matches going down, and half of those matches ended in submission.

I'm going to rank these matches from least to most exciting in my opinion, not an easy task in a division with so many fire matches. Wayyyy too much double pull. I personally can’t stand when an athlete is passing and just sits back for more double pull. Not the best match, I’m sure they will meet again. 1 star

Basically a stalemate between two veterans, the decision could have gone either way. 2.5 stars

Alex proved yet again that she is right there with the best in the world, but top ranked Mayssa was just too much for her in round one. Mayssa controlled from start to finish, but her back take in the second half was the most dominant position in the match. 2.5 stars

Their second meeting of the tournament, this time for third place. Definitely more clear of a decision than the first match, Tammi spent a long time on Tubby’s back. Tubby fought until the end though, turning it on in the last few minutes once she escaped Tammi’s back control. 2.5 stars

Grace probably has the best passing in the women’s divisions and put on a pressure passing clinic here. She spent the entire match going forward and long periods in side control and mount against a top five ranked opponent. 3 stars

Usually you’d think a 30 minute match would not be very exciting, but I was on the edge of my seat for this one. Mayssa almost took Grace’s back early, Grace controlled the middle portion of the match on top, and Mayssa just snapped out of nowhere near the end to seal the victory. 3 stars

Brilliant technical display from Tammi here, first passing with a body lock and then finishing an arm bar against a very resistant Danielle Kelly. Another quick sub on the back side, under two minutes. 4 stars

Great back and forth match in this rematch from an earlier WNO. Crane came out strong, passing Danielle’s guard early, but Danielle recovered and threw up some nice attacks, Crane passed again later on but Danielle recovered again and ended up finishing Jessica with a heel hook. 4 stars
