Marcelo Mafra Bringing Cash Prizes To The Colored Ranks At The Lapela Cup.

Marcelo "Lapela" Mafra is one of Checkmat’s best representatives. A No-Gi World champion, Masters Worlds champion, and ADCC veteran, Mafra’s credentials are about as good as they come in jiu-jitsu.
He’s taking his experience as a competitor and turning it into a vehicle for running his own event, the Lapela Cup, which aims to promote the growth of jiu-jitsu by rewarding white-purple belt absolute champions with cash prizes.
The Lapela Cup is set to go down March 17 in Victorville, California. You can sign up to compete here.
Now in its second year, the Lapela Cup awards absolute division champions with $400; second place will take home $100. There is a light absolute (170lb and under) division and heavy absolute (171lb and over) bracket for each belt level.
