IBJJF World Championships is BACK in 2021
On Friday, the IBJJF dropped huge news, announcing the dates and location for the 2021 IBJJF World Championship. The federation posted on its official Instagram that it would hold the 2021 Worlds on December 9-12 in Anaheim, CA. More than 18 months after the last world championships, the biggest event in gi jiu-jitsu is back! This news follows several previous announcements from the federation regarding major events, including Pans (September 1-5), No-Gi Worlds (October 7-10), Brasileiros (September 25-October 3) and World Masters (November 10-13). Something a bit more exclusive on the IBJJF calendar, the organization has announced two gi grand prix to be held in Las Vegas at Jiu-Jitsu Con during the World Masters tournament.

Galvao Will Return for ADCC Superfight!
After a year and a half of uncertainty, the 2022 ADCC World Championship organizers have confirmed that Andre Galvao will return to defend his superfight title. The timing of Galvao’s participation may raise eyebrows given that it comes just over two weeks after Gordon Ryan announced that he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from competition due to an ongoing battle with the stomach condition gastroparesis. Do not rush to conclusions – FloGrappling can exclusively confirm that Galvao accepted the match on May 1, long before Gordon’s announcement on May 20, as seen in this screenshot in a conversation with ADCC promoter Mo Jassim.

Elisabeth Clay Submits ANOTHER World Champ
Elisabeth Clay has packed an impressive list of results into a very short space of time. In the last calendar year she has submitted a string of big names, many of them world champions in either go or no-gi competitions. She can add another scalp to that list with her kneebar submission of 2019 World champion Andressa Cintra at Subversiv on Saturday May 1. Clay was only promoted to black belt in November of 2020. She has an 80% finishing rate with a penchant for leg locks, having scored multiple kneebars and heel hooks. The only chokes she has scored so far have been gogoplatas, giving you a some insight into her unusual but highly effective game.

Junny Ocasio Dominates at Fight to Win
At Fight to Win 171, Edwin "Junny" Ocasio put on a one-sided display of offense against Taniel De Jesus. Junny is now 11-2 since August 2020, and he hasn't lost a match in. his natural 135-lb weight class in that time. Each of his matches have come against larger, no. 1-ranked opponents. Junny was not able to earn a submission against de Jesus, but he flaunted his attacking abilities, nonetheless. Usually known as a leglocker, Junny displayed his passing and creativity at Fight to Win 171, toggling back and forth between upper and lower body attacks.
