Leo Vieira Says Coaching Buchecha Is Like A Video Game

Coaching Buchecha Is Like A "Video Game"

Checkmat co-founder and legendary black belt Leo Vieira spoke about working with Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida in preparation for the superfight with Roger Gracie.

Speaking at the press conference for the Gracie Pro event in Rio de Janeiro, Vieira compared coaching Buchecha to playing a video game.

“I’m the guy who guides him to what he should be working for the strategy for this fight. It’s one fight against a big name, but has a really specific game that pushed me to study,” says Vieira.

I have to do my homework, study my opponent. Now I’m like ‘Buchecha, let me play the video game with your body’.
About the best strategy to face Roger, Vieira ad this to say: “He needs to avoid getting stuck in closed guard, half guard — keep the fight flowing. It’s his natural skills. He adapts so fast, thinks so fast, and his body moves like a lightweight. We always want to keep the fight moving, non-stop. He’s ready to do 15 minutes like a crazy scramble.”
