Mackenzie Dern isn't satisfied: 'I Just Want To Be The Best'
Featherweight powerhouse Mackenzie Dern didn't disappoint at the European Championships adding a Gold and Silver medal to her impressive already impressive collection. Dern turned in one of the most impressive year's the sport has ever seen winning almost every major tournament in 2015. With quick submissions in four of her five fights this past weekend, Mackenzie has no plans of slowing down and sets her sights on even bigger aspirations.
"I want to win Worlds absolute, I’m still trying to get double gold. I just won Worlds no-gi, I lost in my weight but won absolute so I’m still trying to get double gold." said Dern, "I just want to be the best, I want to do everything I can to be dominant."
“I have nothing to prove; one day I win and one day I lose. I think the best athlete is the most consistent. Even if I just won the World Championships, that’s only one day. To be the best you need to beat a lot of people.”
Although Dern has already announced her plans to transition into MMA it doesn't sound like she is ready to leave jiu-jitsu behind just yet.
"Jiu-Jitsu will always be in my heart, I'm always going to compete in jiu-jitsu. Theres always new girls coming so I know there will always be challenges."
