The highlight of the event will bring eight of the top Middleweight grapplers together for a battle in the No-Gi Grand Prix, with the winner bagging a hefty R$50,000 prize.
Of the eight, Galvão has been making waves in the IBJJF scene in recent years and will be one of the toughest to beat.
However, Who's Next Champ Izaak Michell, WNO Champion Jonnatas Gracie, 'El Natural' Roberto Jimenez and ADCC place-winner Jon Blank all bring massive talent to the table.
Either way, eight competitors means the winner will have to face, and beat, three opponents to claim the prize.
Before then, here are three things to know about the BJJ Stars 15 No-Gi Grand Prix.
1. The Records Of BJJ Stars 15 No-Gi Grand Prix Competitors
There will be eight grapplers vying to win the No-Gi Grand Prix, including six ranked competitors. Their records are as follows:
- #2 Jonnatas Gracie (65-17)
- #4 Mica Galvão (104-7)
- #8 Izaak Michell (20-6)
- #11 Roberto Jimenez (116-41)
- #14 Jon Blank (31-14)
- #15 Oliver Taza (179-50)
- Elijah Dorsey (55-16)
- Rafael Paganini (109-48)
2. The Highest Ranked Grappler Competing In The No-Gi Grand Prix
The highest ranked grappler that will be facing off in the No-Gi Grand Prix is Jonnatas Gracie, who is the No. 2-ranked 185-pound grappler.
While Mica Galvão does have a more stacked record than Gracie, he has shifted weight classes more recently, making his list of wins more sparse in the 85-kilogram, or 185-pound weight class.
Though Gracie should not be overlooked because of Galvão's overall record, as Gracie has won the IBJJF Pans Gi and No-Gi, European Open and World Championships.
3. The Path Of Victory For The Grapplers
As mentioned earlier, there are eight competitors in the Grand Prix, meaning that the champion grappler must win three matches.
The Grand Prix works as a single elimination, knockout tournament, meaning that there will be no second chances.
