Since the IBJJF Brasileiro's founding in 1996, the finals matchups at the black belt level have never included a head-to-head match between two American competitors.

Yet a mere 29 years later, history will be made at the 2025 rendition of the Brasilieros, with American black belt featherweights Cole Abate and Isaac Doederlein set to face off in the finals.

Abate is a talented grappler, bringing a handful of gold medals to the mix from the 2024 No-Gi World Championships, 2024 No-Gi Pan Championships and the gi and no-gi divisions of the 2024 Atlanta Fall Open.

Doederlein is just as decorated as Abate, showcasing first-place wins from the 2017 Las Vegas Open, 2020 European Open and 2022 World Championships.

It'll be anyone's match as the two powerhouses face off on the final day of the IBJJF Brasileiro on Sunday, May 4.
