What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu

-WNO 29 happened in Miami, Florida and it was 4-time ADCC medalist Vagner Rocha winning in the main event. After the match, he said he wants a match anywhere with Marcelo Garcia. In the co-main event, Adele Fornarino submitted Jasmine Rocha with an aoki lock and in light-heavyweight action, Roberto Jimenez beat Ryan Aitken. Read more about the entire event here.

-BJJ Stars 16 went down with Pedro Marinho winning the absolute grand prix. He was on fire all night, including scoring his signature guillotine in the finals against Yatan Bueno. Also in action was Thalyta Silva defending her title against Helena Crevar and Julia Alves winning the lightweight belt.

-Mica was announced as the wildcard pick for Team New Wave at CJI 2, filling in at -77kg. With Mica's addition to an already formidable squad, they become the team to beat in Vegas.

-PGF began their eighth season, which will air on Wednesdays on their YouTube channel. Episode one saw some pretty cool submissions and good performances, with Raphael Ferreira, Anthony Molina, and Christos Papadelos in the lead after one week. Interestingly the favorite coming in, Jett Thompson, has no points yet. Team Dollamur leads a very close team competition.

-Team Americas added their fifth and final member, Elijah Dorsey of TLI at -88kg. Elijah was a top-4 finisher at the 2024 ADCC World Championships.

-Team Atos also announced Diego Pato will be their wildcard at -66kg for CJI 2. They already have Gracie Barra's Felipe Pena at +99kg, with three more spots to be announced. Sarah Galvão and Adele Fornarino will also be in the $100,000 women's bracket.

-ADCC will stay on FloGrappling through at least 2026, with a new deal signed. This will include Worlds, Trials, Opens, and more content for fans.

-Kids Pans, the toughest kid's gi tournament in the world, went down in Orlando, FL. There are so many future champions on those mats - we just don't know who yet. Two young champs who look like future stars won gold in Daniel 220 and Icaro Moreno. AOJ won the team championship, with 420 points.

-We missed this last week but Nico Maglicic of Atos beat Josh Saunders by decision at Subversion: Anarchy. Subversion is Australia's biggest super fight show and Nico is their new heavyweight champion after the upset.

-IBJJF has released more matches from the World Championships, available now on their YouTube page.

-Cage Fury BJJ 14 went down, and it was another solid show for the Northeastern promotion. The most notable results were Junny Ocasio retaining his promotional title against Joey Diehl and Elder Cruz winning again.

-IBJJF Open round up:

• Sarah Galvão continued her perfect record as a black belt, winning double gold at the Orlando Open (but just having one match contested).
• Elementum's Enderson Dias won double gold at the Orlando Open. He's the brother of women's black belt world champion Larissa Dias and very skilled in his own right. GF Team's Caio Carreira and Iris Da Costa Feliz won brown belt double gold.
• Outer Heaven's Kevin Mahecha won the Orlando Open at lightweight, Kevin is a veteran competitor who had a great performance at Worlds and continues his strong momentum.
• Chazz Canas won Orlando Open no-gi gold. He's one of JT Torres's most impressive students, especially in no-gi. In black belt action, world-ranked Jessie Crane won gold at feather.

-Dillon Danis will make his MMA return at the August 30th Misfits Boxing event, in the light-heavyweight division.

-The Simple Man Podcast talked about their change from B-Team to their new yet-to-be-named gym. Said Nicky Ryan;

"It’s just easier for us to run the ship, we’re already doing it. It’s just a transfer of ownership, literally nothing is changing in the gym."

-Standard BJJ brown belt Sid Tavolaro won the Finishers BJJ Money In The Bank tournament, with four submissions for the cash prize. The 2024 IBJJF purple belt world champion is definitely one to watch at 155lbs.

-Bella Mir won an MMA fight with a crossface chicken wing, a very rare shoulder lock/neck crank combination that is a rarely-seen catch submission.

-Quintet 5 was announced for Dubai in October. Streaming details and rosters to follow.

What's Coming Up In BJJ

• July 31st: UFC BJJ 2 will go down with Andrew Tackett defending his championship belt against Renato Canuto
• August 28-30th: The IBJJF Master Worlds & Jiu-Jitsu Con is back! This is one of the busiest tournaments in jiu-jitsu, with lots of fun stuff for fans to do.
• August 30-31st: CJI 2, featuring 8 star-studded teams competing for a $1,000,000 prize, airs live on YouTube for grappling fans everywhere to enjoy
• September 6th: The ADCC season begins again as the European, Middle East, & African Trials begins. Five men's trials winners will advance to the 2026 World Championships.
