A new year. A clean slate. A storied tradition. And the first International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Grand Slam event of 2026.

There’s a lot to be excited about when the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2026 gets underway in mid-January, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu fans will get to catch all of the action live on FloGrappling and the FloSports app, beginning Jan. 15 at 4:30 a.m. Eastern.

The tournament is expected to draw thousands of competitors of all ages, skill levels and weight classes to Lisbon, which has hosted all but three editions of the event since it debuted in 2004.

All of the competition from the IBJJF European Championship 2026 will take place at the familiar Pavilhão Multiusos de Odivelas, and it would not be a huge surprise if the entry total surpassed the 6,000 from last year’s tournament.

As a major championship, the tournament offers high ranking points, the strongest lineups, a benchmark for the start of the year and a chance for established and new stars to make an early statement.

The IBJJF Grand Slam is a collection of four major gi tournaments throughout the season that includes IBJJF Euros, the Pan Championships, Brazilian National Championships and the World Championships.

The athletes at IBJJF Euros 2026 will fight in five belt-based categories that are further divided by age and weight.

The category with the most experienced athletes also is the one that draws the most attention – the adult black belt division, and those matches are sure to fill the multipurpose facility.

Among the 2026 entries will be some reigning black belt champions:

Men:

  • Diego Oliveira Batista (featherweight)
  • Tainan Dalpra Costa (middleweight)
  • Davi Vetoraci de Menezes (medium heavyweight but moving up to heavyweight)

Women

  • Thaís Loureiro Felipe (rooster)
  • Mayssa Caldas Pereira Bastos (light feather)
  • Larissa Campos Carvalho (feather)
  • Janaina Maia de Menezes (lightweight)
  • Ingridd Alves de Sousa (medium heavy)
  • Gabrieli Pessanha de Souza Marinho (super heavy)

Now, one of the big questions is, “when do these athletes compete?”

Here’s a look at the general schedule for IBJJF Euros 2026. A more detailed version will be forthcoming from the IBJJF.
