Among the nearly 8,000 entries at the 2026 International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Brazilian National Championship will be some of the most talented athletes on the planet.
They’ve battled their way through the ranks and rightfully earned the attention they get as black belts on one of the biggest stages in jiu-jitsu.
A few have the chance to complete the IBJJF Grand Slam for this season. There are defending IBJJF Brasileiro champions. Some competitors are seeking redemption. Others are looking to continue momentum or turn their seasons around.
The one constant is that no matter where they’re coming from, everyone is looking to claim a major championship at Ginásio Poliesportivo José Correa (José Correa Multi-Sport Gymnasium) in the city of Barueri, which is in São Paulo.
The event will be held April 24 through May 3, and all of the action will be broadcast live on FloGrappling and the FloSports app.

Though IBJJF Brasileiro is third Grand Slam event of the calendar year, the IBJJF competition calendar actually begins with the World Championships, traditionally held in May/June.
That might be confusing for the novice fans, but you can be sure that Diego Pato (men’s light featherweight), Tainan Dalpra (men’s middleweight) and Gabi Pessanha (women’s super-heavyweight) are very clear about what’s at stake.
They are the three athletes still in position to lock up IBJJF Gran Slam titles in São Paulo – and all three won there last year, too.
This year’s field also includes four additional female champions from 2025, along with one more winner on the men’s side – Erich Munis, who won the Super Heavyweight and Open titles.
In all, there will be more than 150 athletes competing across the nine black-belt weight classes for the men and nearly 70 for the women in their eight classifications.
The adult black belts will be in action throughout the day on May 2-3.

There Will Be More Than Just Black Belts At IBJJF Brasileiro 2026
While the black belts might be the most familiar names and typically garner the most attention, fans on-site and at home will be treated to elite performances from athletes of all ages and skill levels.
The thousands of athletes at IBJJF Brasileiro 2026 will be placed into divisions based on their ages and belt colors – white, blue, purple, brown and black – and each category will feature eight or nine weight classes. There also will be an Open/Absolute title up for grabs.

About IBJJF Brasileiro
Brasileiro is one of a handful of top-tier events run by the IBJJF, and it first was held in 1996.
The first time women participated was 1998, and female champions have been crowned at each edition since 2000.
Through 2012, the prestigious competition was held in Rio de Janeiro, before moving to its current home in São Paulo.
