2026 IBJJF Worlds Day One Recap: Omar Nada Captures Brown Belt Double Gold

The 2026 IBJJF World Championship is underway in Long Beach, California and we have wrapped up a wild day one in the Walter Pyramid. It was Omar Nada walking away with the headlining double gold at men's brown belt, capturing super-heavy and open class gold with a punishing, powerful style. The day finished with blue belt adult men and women as well, with Helena Ferreira and Matheus Lima capturing double gold in their respective categories.

There were so many standouts among the adult male brown belts but discussion must begin with Omar Nada's day. He won six matches, three in super-heavy and three in the open class, to win his double gold. The KSA Team athlete lives in New York City where he trains with Unity Jiu-Jitsu and Murilo Santana and he was bringing that legendary pressure all day long. Omar will be a welcome addition to the black belt ranks if & when he graduates up soon.

Felipe Goulart won gold at light-feather and has really set himself apart these last few years as a top colored belt prospect to watch. The AOJ competitor had a war in the finals with João Vitor Alves and he was able to pull ahead after several vicious ankle locks. He won five matches overall on the day to win his division and his style looks ready for the tests at black belt.

Natã Tença was the only brown belt adult male to win his world title with all submissions, snatching foot locks in every match to establish his spot on top of the podium. This was a loaded brown belt division so for Natã to win with all submissions is an incredible statement for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see several of these guys on the black belt major podiums soon and Natã proved today he is the brightest star of the group as far as today.

Few more champs who deserve shouted out are 'The Crazy Dog' Marcio Italo, Rafael Gamba and his triangle (which is already one of the best in the world), and Jeferson Tijolo of DreamArt who is always bringing some crazy takedowns.

The Qazaqstan Top Team had a really impressive performance at brown belt, with Alinur Kuatuly and Seiilkhan Bolatbek winning feather and light respectively and Batyr Tenizbay adding light-feather bronze. These were two of the deepest, toughest brackets happening all weekend and they displayed power, technique, and heart in every match. It's always so exciting to see jiu-jitsu blossoming around the globe in new places and the Kazakhstani athletes of today like Alinur and Seiilkhan are helping establish a pathway for even more success for athletes of the future.

The team scores have Alliance in an early lead for the men with 50% of the points given out today, with Gracie Barra up early in the women's count with only 25% of points allotted. The top-5's stand as follows;

Adult blue belts were also in action today, with Matheus Silva and Helena Ferreira capturing their respective open class gold medals. Silva, of CheckMat, bounced back from a semifinal loss at super-heavy to win the absolute - finishing the final by submission in a statement victory. Ferreira, of Vision, for her day was dominant, winning double gold for the absolute and light divisions.
