The 2026 IBJJF World Championship is underway in Long Beach, California and we have finished day two here with a crazy day of action featuring blue, purple, and brown belts. While there were tons of impressive performances, no one was more dominant than brown belt double gold medalist Hazel Butcher-Salazar who won heavy and the open class with all submissions in a stunning display.

Hazel was 6-0 with every fight ending by submission, which is even crazier when you consider that this was a very deep field that she laid waste to. Hazel has only been doing jiu-jitsu for five years but has already established herself as a potential future star, someone capable of winning in style at the highest levels. She defeated Greta Notaro in her division and Lauriane Stavacz Afonso in the open finals to cement both gold medals.
Livia Barasine made history today, going all the way from blue to black belt in one year - her first year of adult eligibility! She won the medium-heavy division at Worlds today and was promoted on the podium afterwards. No one has ever accomplished this feat at such a young age, truly remarkable how talented Livia is for such a young age.
Emily Leyva, a member of the Atos Dream Team, won gold and then took bronze in the open class in a strong performance that led to her getting her black belt as well. It was an international squad at the top of the women's brown belt podium, including champions from Australia, South Korea, Israel, USA, Hungary, and Brazil.
Medium-heavy bronze medalist Luis Henrique Oliveira was able to regroup and come back for open class gold, capturing the title with a close points win in the final after a stacked bracket full of champions. The Alliance competitor received his brown belt from Michael Langhi on the mats in a special moment for the squad.
A few of the other standouts from purple belt men were Fernando Paiva, Lucas Yan, Dione Munis, and Rodrigo Dantas. Hawann Hennye won light-feather and was promoted on the podium to brown belt - after only 4 weeks at purple belt! Truly remarkable. Oli Silvestro put on a good show for double silver and continues to be one of the top prospects at colored belt.
The team scores have Alliance in an strong lead for the men with 75% of the points given out today, with Gracie Barra up in the women's count with 50% of points allotted. The top-5's stand as follows;
