Rocha, 44, a longtime star in MMA, announced his retirement from ADCC competition following his loss to Russian grappler Magomed Dzharbaev in the quarterfinals.
Rocha, the No. 1 seed in the weight class, beat Michael Sainz in the Round of 16 hours earlier.

It Was A Monumental Day For The Rochas
Following the loss, Rocha announced he was ending his ADCC career. It was an emotional send-off. His son Achilles was one of the breakout stars of the first day of one of the greatest no-gi jiu-jitsu tournaments in the world. Achilles defeated Cyborg Abreu and veteran Declan Moody to reach the semifinals, where he'll face Luke Griffith.
Just recently 20, Achilles' run could be a changing-of-the-guard moment in the -99 weight class.

His sister, Jasmine, 24, is no stranger to ADCC. She had her breakout along with her father in 2024, when she had a third-place finish at ADCC. Jasmine is among the favorites to win the -55 weight class and is the No. 1 seed.

Vagner Rocha Legacy
Rocha leaves ADCC competition as one of the event’s most decorated veterans, with four World Championship medals across nearly a decade.
He reached the podium for the first time with a third-place finish in 2017 before earning silver in 2019. Rocha returned to take bronze in 2022 and produced another runner-up finish in 2024.
His ADCC résumé also includes three Trials victories, winning the U.S. East Trials in 2010 and 2015 and the U.S. West Trials in 2017.
Beyond ADCC, Rocha competed at the highest levels of grappling and MMA, including a stint in the UFC, and founded Vagner Rocha Martial Arts in 2011.
