The Daily Training Routine Of A World-Class Black Belt Competitor
Mahamed Aly is one of the best up-and-coming athletes in the ultra heavyweight division. The 22-year-old entered the ranks of the black belt division in October of last year, and since then has shook the division with his amazing athleticism and dynamic jiu-jitsu

The Brazilian gave us a look at his daily training routine so that we could better understand how a world-class competitor structures his preparations.

Aly competes this weekend at the New York International Pro. Sign up to watch live or on replay with a FloPRO account

The Daily Training Routine of Mahamed Aly

My routine, Monday to Friday, is like this:

8.30am: I wake up and organize everything for the morning training. Gi, clothes, wrestling boots and supplements.

9.30am: My friend comes here to collect me and we go to the gym. I still don't have a car.

10.00am: Training starts. Generally Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I workout from 10.30 to 11.30. Tuesdays and Thursdays I work out or stretch. If I feel good, I train. If I'm really tired, I stretch.

11.30am: Jiu-jitsu training until 1.30pm.

Between 1.30pm and 8.30pm, generally I do what I have to do; eat, rest, eat again, do laundry, look after the dogs, read…  I don't like to sleep more than an hour in the afternoon.

8.30pm: I train jiu-jitsu every night until 10.30pm. Sometimes, when training is over, I'll train my grips until 11.00pm -- but only if I'm in the mood.

Saturdays, we usually do three hours of drilling. If we're really tired, we take Saturday and Sunday off.
