1. Baret Yoshida vs. Ron Henderson
It's always a show when Baret Yoshida steps up! In a welcome change of pace for the perennial traveler, Yoshida is finally taking a superfight in his hometown of San Diego, where he lives and teaches. His opponent Ron Henderson is a black belt under Leo Vieira who will be looking to make a name for himself early on in his black belt career.
2. Michael Liera Jr. vs Piter Frank
Both Michael Liera Jr. Piter Frank fought in the last FIVE Grappling event. Liera Jr competed in the welterweight Super League, while Frank was on the undercrad. Liera will be keen to redeem himself following his last outing on the event, and Frank will look to repeat his highlight reel flying armbar finish from December's show.
3. Talita Alencar vs. Bia Mesquita
It doesn't get any bigger than this! One of the top matchups on the entire card pits two of the best women's blacks belts out there against each other. Although Bia Mesquita is the more accomplished fighter, Talita Alencar has been on a tear recently and is on a mission to assert herself among the upper echelon of the sport. It's possible these two could meet again next weekend at the 2017 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Irvine, California.
4. Sergio Rios vs. Renato Canuto
Renato Canuto is in the midst of a transition from elite brown belt to elite black belt. After a lackluster debut, Canuto looks to starts his climb to the top of the black belt ranks. First he'll have to get through one of Southern California's best in Sergio Rios, who already has a win at FIVE. After taking out Paragon's Rodrigo Antunes, Rios will look to go 2-0 under the promotional banner.
5. Magid Hage vs. 'Sinistro' Iturralde
The submission-only style was made for both of these guys. Two of the most exciting finishers in the sport go head to head in what has fight of the night written all over it. Will it be the baseball choke master or the Ecuadorian Pan American champion?
6. Fabricio 'Morango' Camoes vs. Stephan Martinez
Stephan Martinez put on a show at the last FIVE Grappling event, and we expect the matchup here to bring fireworks as well. His opponent will be UFC veteran and world no-gi champion Fabricio Camoes. Both these guys have an extensive MMA pedigree and should bring an aggressive style to the mats!
7. Kaynan Duarte vs. Kyle Boehm
Atos purple belt Kaynan Duarte is among the hottest prospects in submission grappling. After securing an invite to the 2017 ADCC World Championships by upsetting more than one black belt in the Rio trials, all eyes are on him. We'll get another chance to see if Kaynan is the real deal as he goes up against 10th Planet standout Kyle Boehm.
