The worlds of gi and no-gi will collide at the IBJJF World Championships in Long Beach, California. 

28 competitors at the World Championships will also compete at ADCC in September. This counts athletes who qualified for ADCC by winning the continental trials, returning champions, and those invited.  

There is the opinion that, stylistically speaking, gi and no-gi are becoming increasingly different and that specialization in one or the other is required for success. This goes to show that many prominent competitors are still comfortable competing on the biggest stages in both styles. 

Of the 12 athletes who qualified for the ADCC World Championships by winning the South American trials, 10 of them will compete this weekend at the upcoming IBJJF World Championships.

Here is a full list of all of the ADCC 2022 competitors in action at Worlds this weekend. I’ve included the division they will compete in along with the mat assignment an estimated start time for their first match.

• 22 men, 6 women 
• 14 Trials winners 
• 3 returning champions (Diniz, Duarte, Basilio)  
• 25 black belts, 1 brown belt (Elder Cruz) and two purple belts (Cole Abate, Giovana Jara)
