Can Keenan Cornelius Win Worlds?
We've got to talk about Keenan Cornelius. We were all surprised to see him at heavyweight, and Keenan himself has even said that he does better with bigger guys by competing at super-heavyweight. We'll see him challenge himself against Leandro Lo, Kaynan Duarte and Patrick Gaudio. Keenan's had a long time to reflect on what happened at the 2018 Worlds when he lost in a controversial match with Patrick Gaudio and appears extremely motivated to win gold at Worlds. Look at the line-up and there are a bunch of names that Keenan has historically done very well against: Jackson Sousa, Adam Wardzinski, Tim Spriggs, and others. This could be the year that we see Keenan win his first IBJJF World Championship gold medal. Has he fixed everything he knows didn't work in the past? We all know Keenan is very capable, and he's been at the top of the game for a while now. But the IBJJF world gold medal is the one thing that eludes him. What came through in our recent interviews with him is that Keenan has rekindled his fire for jiu-jitsu. He seems to have fallen in love with jiu-jitsu all over again. Keenan had been at Atos for a long time and it was evident that he was not happy there. Maybe by leaving this is the catalyst he needed to go and put together the best performance he's ever had– he'll need it.
