Every year brings a new crop of colored belt world champions and medalists, a group that has won the toughest tournament possible at their current rank and proven ready for higher levels of challenge. Below is a list of the 2023 IBJJF World Champions that have been promoted to the next highest rank since winning their bracket. The list of confirmed names who will compete at the 2022 ADCC continues to grow, and we'll see another seven athletes qualify at this weekend's Brazilian Trials.

The 1st South American ADCC Trials delivered. Five divisions produced champions who are now qualified to compete at the 2022 ADCC World Championships in Las Vegas in September, and each of those champions fought through deep brackets to earn their spots.

The 2022 ADCC South American Trials go down in tow locations over two weekends, with the 1st ADCC South American Trial taking place in Balneario Camboriu, and the 2nd ADCC South American Trial in Sao Paulo.

Day one of the IBJJF World Championships was filled with the action, submissions and incredible stories expected of an event of this caliber. Day two is sure to deliver as well, as the male purple and brown belts will take their place on the mats in search of the most coveted title in jiu-jitsu. With hundreds of competitors in search of just a few medals, we're guaranteed  thrilling action throughout the day.

Nobody could have predicted the end of the no-gi match between Lucas "Hulk" Barbosa and Matheus Diniz at BJJ Stars VI. A candidate for the most surprising, complicated and controversial finish to a grappling match in living memory, Diniz put Barbosa to sleep with a choke but it was deemed to have been applied after time had run out. Below, I’ll attempt to clarify what happened and you can even see my analysis of the video to determine whether the choke was legit or not.

Johnatha Alves was able to stop the surging Mica Galvao and claimed $10,000 in the process. Keenan Cornelius has pulled out of WNO but one of his black belts has stepped up to replace him, and a well-known champion from the women’s divisions will make her MMA debut.
