The IBJJF’s medium heavyweight division has always garnered some of the most fan friendly athletes. At 188-lbs, these competitors have the perfect blend of explosiveness and braun mixed with agility, technique and precision.

The brackets for the 2022 ADCC West Coast Trials have been released. With returning ADCC trials finalists, former ADCC qualifiers, and renowned ADCC hopefuls registered, this is set to be the largest ADCC trials in history.

Only a small fraction of the top-performers at the 2021 ADCC East Coast Trials were rewarded for their efforts with a ticket to the ADCC World Championship in September. The rest will have to try again this weekend in Las Vegas. This is their last opportunity to guarantee their spots, but they'll each be up against a field of talented opponents at the largest-ever ADCC trials.

The return of Worlds, the growth of WNO, and the emergence of a new generation of champion grapplers– just a handful of the high points of a rollercoaster 12-month period that rarely took its foot off the gas pedal. Of course, there were also less positive happenings; confrontations, team splits, and more.

The 1st North American ADCC Trials are underway. With nearly 800 competitors registered for the event, this is the largest event in the history of the ADCC trials. The two-day event has massive stakes: each of the five male winners will earn an invitation to the 2022 ADCC World Championships, while both female winners will get a free trip to the 2nd North American Trials.

Roberto Jimenez came close to qualifying for ADCC on two separate occasions. He lost in a semifinal to Alec Baudling at the east coast trials in 2018, taking third; and he lost to Stanley Rosa at the 2019 west coast trials, taking fourth.

The IBJJF 2021 Pan No-Gi Championships is underway. The black belt divisions begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, May 15, and run all day long. The 2021 No-Gi Pan Championships kick off on Saturday, May 15. The divisions are loaded with some of the biggest names in grappling. And this year, there's a new wrinkle in place; heel hooks and reaping are legal for black belts. New faces have come out in droves, and we could see the crowning of some first-time IBJJF No-Gi Pans champions. But those new faces will still have to get through some of the best in the world.

Andrew Wiltse had a relatively seamless ascent to his first black belt title, earning No-Gi Pans gold in 2020, winning his first two matches by points before winning a third via penalty. He didn’t give up a point in three matches, but the returning champ is unlikely to have such an easy route to the top in the medium heavyweight bracket in this go-around.

The first major event of the 2021 IBJJF season has finally hit the calendar, as the Pan No-Gi Championships is officially slated for May 15-16. But if you haven’t registered yet, it may already be too late.

The biggest IBJJF gi event in the U.S. to date this year, the IBJJF American National Championships is set to kick off on Thursday, June 24 in Las Vegas. Some of the biggest names in jiu-jitsu will make their return to the blue and yellow mats, including 2020 Pan champs, Thiago Macedo, Ronaldo Junior, Fellipe Andrew, Nathalie Ribeiro and more.

The long-anticipated debut of heel hooks in the IBJJF no-gi format has finally arrived. The Dallas No-Gi Open went down on Sunday, March 7. It was a historic event as the first tournament in the history of the IBJJF to allow heel hooks for adult brown and black belts.
